Silver Prints: Traditional black and white prints are referred to as silver prints because silver halide crystals are the light sensitive component of a photographic prints gelatin emulsion. The more silver the better the light sensitive characteristics; better blacks, and more tones within the values of a print. Silver prints when toned produce innumerable patinas that can improve with age. Properly processed fiber based prints will last forever. Resin Coated (RC) prints are also made with silver halide crystals but have a developer incorporated acrylic emulsion.
